What would it cost to convert a 4010 diesel to a 12 volt system. What is involved parts wise?

One thing you might also have to do is replace your fuel guage. The original ones worked as a positive ground and will not work with reversed polarity. If you are running lots of electrical power from your tractor you will like the conversion. If the problem is starting, this may not help. Lots of help on this site to help fix 24V systems.

Main expensive component would be a 12 volt starter. You could pick up an alternator with internal regulator at a wrecking yard and build a bracket. Would need to rewire for the 12 volts as with 24 volts some accessories come off of one battery and others off the other battery. JD had a kit for this that may still be available. It had wiring harness and all. May also be available from others.
