I'm putting the finishing touches on the Model H, but I'm don't know if the choke rod has the correct bends to route it to the choke. In its current position it rubs against the breather pipe and the down ward section of the fuel line to the carburetor. Can some one post pictures that will help me figure this out? Thanks!!!!

I'm going back to work on that rod. The pictue dan_41jdh posted makes sense so I'll try to make the rod follow that path to the choke. Thanks for help. I'll get back with a picture when I finish.

My only concern with it rubbing would be wear. After awhile you could wear a hole in that fuel line.

Funny you should post this as I have the same question. I am fixing minor things on my neighbor's 'H' and the choke rod has rubbed the hole in the dash it passes through twice as deep. I was wondering myself what the correct bends should be. I took his, which was only slightly bent akwards, and made it perfectly straight in a vise. BIG MISTAKE! Does anyone have a pic of a untouched original one they could post here?

Ravgardner, for what it's worth, this picture might be of some help. It appears the bends need to be there in order to properly clear the things you're describing. I don't have a choke rod on mine, so I can't tell you if this routing is correct or not. But it doesn't appear that a straight rod would work.

Ron:

The picture in the parts book shows a rod with two bends in it, but Sharp's $15.00 replacement rod for H918R shows it as pretty straight....I'm sorry I can't offer more. I guess kink it until it fits.

Thanks Frank, I started with a straight rod. I have recreated the original fuel setup so I can use both tanks and no way will a straight rod reach the choke. So I studied the diagram in my book, same one as you posted above, and I bent it and have it connected and it works, But!!!!! It rubs on the vent pipe and the fuel line. My question to you is, should I be concerned about a spark being created as the rod is moved?

Well, if it's touching other metal that's grounded it's really unlikely. I mean, you have that magneto sitting there constantly churning out 60,000 volts and it's wire go right under the tank! Two pieces of steel sliding against each other for the times when you need choke.....

Maybe someone can find a picture of an acutal installation for you. I'd think you will want to put a kink in it toward the left and then back to the right. That's how I remember them. Not much of a kink, but maybe 3/8" or so.

Frank
