I just returned from a Farm toy show with my 1/2 size Gold-leaf-deere and have observed all the comments on the value of Old John Deere tractors, here are some stories that i have got from reliable sourses. a 630 High crop in rufff condition sold for $195,000, John Deere paid the Hansen Estate $300,000 for the Dain, I knew of a D-Hawkeye Grader in Arkansas in about 1985, it was too big to haul with my 1951 Ford truck. My Original GOLD_LEAF_DEERE was found in Kingfisher, OKlahoma not Kansas. The Highcrop B were aftermarket modifications using a plain styled chassis. In my oppinion the most valuable would be the Keller Experimental GP

why not the RED 330 or 430 only 4 or 5 built for each, or the red BI. I am not a farmall fan to anybody who thinks that. how bout a 330V(drooling as i type) only about 12 of them were registered to me made.
At least we can all have fun with this topic.

oooh I got it!! The 330 U painted ORANGE only one of them was made.

The Dain John Deere was bought on an Frank Hansen's estate sale, in Rollingstone, MN. A small town about 40 miles from me. They found it back in the weeds. No idea on the price but i'll see if i can find it.

The centennial 1937 Golden john deere D (1 of 1)
would be pretty rare.

Is this the one that went to the dealer who sold the most tractors that year and was painted gold and was found in a barn a few years ago, I think it was in Kansas, think my Dad said something about it..

Thanks RFDeere for bringing up pops tractor. As far as Glens comment about the value being little or not much more than a standard 1937 D that is his opinion. However I personally would never come out and say what I thought a tractor like this is worth especially to say it is basically just unique and that is all it is. A rare tractors value is set by the sellers and buyers and not just because one man says it is worth x amount of dollars. Kevin here is some information for you. My web site can be seen at http://chancesrr.freeyellow.com/page1.html. Charlie

The history makes it unique but otherwise it's just another D but gold. Kinda like the USDA corn borer control project Ds. I had one and couldn't get much more for it because of that and it's just unique history to the tractor. Would think one of the early experimental bath tub Ds all restored again would be rare like the pieces of ones they dug up years ago.

I imagine the John Deere D Hawkeye Motor Patrol would be one of the rarest. The trouble is, none have ever been found again.

little h,
I'm not sure what experimental GP you are referring to, but if it is the experimental GPWT the Keller's bought it at auction several years ago for $171,000. Restoration has just been completed and I'm waiting to see it!

Duane, I would have to agree the experimental GPWT that is owned by the Kellars is the rarest as it is one of one. I attended Walt's show in the late 90's to see all their collection. A person would have to have traveled the entire USA to see all the models they have in one location. If Kellars ever have another EXPO. make it a must to attend.

Before the Deere collector's center in Moline got the Dain, it was on eBay and didn't meet the reserve when the top bid was something like $180,000, as I recall. I heard that the reserve on it was $500,000 and one can only guess what the collector's center may have paid for it.

yep, i think you might have it. Not only very rare but a tractor everyone knows about. Maybe someone could give Deere and company a call and ask what they paid for that little piece of history? It is worth the trip to moline just to see the dain tractor. bill

I agree with Scarecrow about the model C ,except for an old JD photo I have never seen one.Other than that I read somewhere about a high crop two cylinder that sold for $125000.00 at an auction they said there were only 6 made. Can't remember the model.

There are several models that have rare configurations, such as hi-crop, some standard LP's, and so on with low production numbers. And then there are highly sought after models such as Waterloo Boy, Spoker D's, and AO Streamlines. But personally (there will be argument) I think one of the rarest would have to be an original John Deere model C tractor (Renamed GP). There were only a few made and it is hard to find any information or pictures of any.
