Still have problem ,it will hold about 25# of pressure untill it warms up about 1o minutes then drop off to maybe 5#,maybe a dumb question but here goes. the way the system pumps right into the filter and gauge would it still show pressure if all the bearing were spun or not ? Iam not under standing the direcion of oil flow, I do not believe I have a main or connecting rod bearing failer ,maybe cam bearing,I think I will try Flushing the system. ANY IDEAS OUT THERE

Do we know that the pressure gauge is reading correctly? These will build a tremendous amount of oil pressure if you shim the pump and everything is right in the bottom end. My 420U will build 80+ cold and drops to 30+ when hot(195º). I run Rotella 15w40 summer and winter. This needs to be fixed before you break something. I jumped into this late, what did you do to the engine? If you did not have the cam bearings out and you did not change the rod bearings, then there has to be a leak somewhere.

CPeter ,yes I have changed gauges, pumps and tryed shims , I put in new rings and try to save having to split the tractor ,there not that much to it I know ,I thought it sounded good at the time . but after hearing from everyone I probobly have cam bearing problems, so I will now teir it down the right way thanks everyone

Did you replace the rod inserts when you put the rings in and if so did you plasti guage the rod bearings when it went back together?

As easy as the pan is to pull on one of these it might be well worth while to check out the bearings and internal areas for metal and other signs of a failure, (you did rings and not bearings?). By the looks of the IT manual. the bearings are supplied directly from the pump via the front and rear cam bearing. Also tied into this oil galley is the filter and guage. The flow from the filter goes directly back into the oil pan so the oil isn't directly filtered before it goes to the bearings. The oil pressure is adjustable by varying the amount of shims in the relief valve on the oil pump, more shims more pressure. I'm not sure of shim thickness but it's a trial thing, add a shim, stick the oilpan back on with a couple bolts and oil start up and see what you have. If more shims are needed, drop the pan and add one and do it again. Operating pressure should hold at about 30 psi hot. If it's not, theres a good chance you have bearing issues. If no apparent knocking is heard it is likely the cam bearings or mains. All the bearings in these are not too hard to replace.

thanks ,I have tryed the shims, nothing changed i have pulled the oil pan several times all the bearings are still inplace, maybe cam bearing.I woud have put new connecting rod bearing but the jounals had some irregularity in them and I was afraid to put new ones in with out turning it . does the oil pressure cold at25 and then dropping off to 5 sound like bearing or maybe trash in it

Oil tends to thin out when it gets hot as well as clearances tend to loosen or tighten as respective parts come up to temperature. Bearing clearances will change a little but not much as these not being in the hottest areas of the engine and with ample oil flow, stay relatively cool. What weight oil are you using? I've always run straight 30 weight oil with good results. But by the description of your crank journals, I would personally be considering refitting the crank and cam bearings. having a crank turned isn't painful, nor is fitting new bearings. A few hundred bucks and some quality time isn't a bad investment for as handy as these little cuss's are.

No its clean. I have had it tore down to install new rings ,it had about 2 inchs of crud in the oil pan when I pulled it off and in the filter canI didnot run it like that but I not shure Of the person I bought it from.
