I ordered new main bearings for a 730LP from Deere. I took a look at the new bearings and they appear to be a brass/bronze alloy. The old ones appear to be aluminum. I am wondering why the difference and does it matter in any way?

heard the brass/bronze ones have a tendency to seize/ gall. you can get correct original-style aluminum ones for around 100 dollars each from a advertizer in green mag or two cylinder mag. cant remember which i saw the ad in. a place in wisconsin i believe. repos correct in every detail. Long live the 2-cyls!

I recently bought some new mains for my 70 puller and they were bronze as well. I had the same concerns as you and asked my machine shop fellow what he thought of this and he thought it actually would be better than the aluminum originals. So I put them in and so far they are fine. Mike

I guess just be glad to get them ? I doubt it matters much as long as you keep oil in it and curculating. I had some brass/bronze ? ones made for a JD H and it seemed to work out fine ?
