I'm working on a 1945 A. I forgot to look when taking off, do you put a lead washer on the head nut that holds the oiler bracket that oils the tappets? I'm guessing you would but wanted to make sure. Thanks

I just got a complete engine gasket set for my '49 A and instead of lead washers they supply copper crush washers like the kind used in aircraft engine applications. There soft enough to comform but with more 'body' than lead. Less of a chance of squishing out if over tighten.

I got those with the last 720 D head set. I don't like that copper at all. Some squished some didn't and it was hard to trim out of the way so the rocker arm holders would fit on it right. Darned government screwing up this stuff no lead and no asbestoes. Head gaskets and brake linings don't hold up anymore.

Parts book shows 9 K2080R lead washers used under head nuts and index doesn't shown them used anyplace else.

Yes--a lead washer should go under each nut. Just don't do like some fool did on mine and put the lead washer under the tappet oiling block. It won't work so well.

You should get enough washers to go over all the head studs directly under the nuts. Trim off the excess after you tighten them down.
