My resto on my 41 B is coming right along and is running great besides a few leaks and a governor noise. I am thinking it is between the gov and the fan shaft. Never tore into a gov before so I was wondering how hard it is to fix this noise. Also i called deere and they wanted 350-400 for the two gears. Any solutions? Thanks AL

Take a stroll over to website www.jdhpubs.com and when you arrive, click on Technical Issues. Page 1 is a directory to the rest of the multipage document. In that document is some data you can use in understanding your tractor's governor and fan shaft operation, and how they relate. If you still come up short on understanding, write me via the website and I will see what can be brought to bear in the form of (perhaps) a field service bulletin or simply to answer a question for you. I just had the same problem with my H and bit the bullet and rebuilt governor. Matched set of gears from JD--$360, three bearings @ $70 each, one NOS drive gear on ebay $91. You will need a press to remove and replace gears and bearings. Might have to get gasket set @$100+. I made my own gaskets, but you must be sure gear lash is correct. Not cheap or fun, but it cured the problem.
