Attempting my first clutch job on a tractor. It's a side console 3020. Got the clutch kit from Deere dealer. Got it split and all apart, got flywheel off to the machine shop. Got the adjusting guage. Couple of quick questions- when I tried to pop out the old throw-out bearing, the sleeve it rides on came with it. I installed the new bearing onto this sleeve, slid the sleeve back in, and tapped on the bearing with a large piece of pipe and a hammer. Is there any way to be sure I've got this sleeve fully engaged into whatever it goes into? Question number two- I can grab ahold of the clutch shaft by the pilot bearing end and move it up and down/side to side about an inch. Is this normal, or do I have a bearing out further back in the transmission? There are no signs of oil leakage into the clutch housing.

Did you replace the pto pistons, or at least the orings and backup rings. Also adjust your pto lever so it bottoms out in the valve. And your questions sound normal, if anything try to remove the bearing again and measure where its at before you drive it in.

You're OK on both items.

Best to replace the seal between the hollow PTO driveshaft and the pilot shaft, AR26532, Key # 30 in the diagram linked below:
