Hey guys:

I was brushhogging with my 730 diesel today and everything was fine. I sheared a pin on the mower and fixed it. Went back on the tractor and could not get the shifter lever from the right side to the left side through neutral. It will not move. So I have 4, 5, 6 th gear, but 1, 2, 3, and reverse are not obtainable. The clutch seems to work well and 4,5,6th gears are ok, but i cannot get to the other gears, the shifter will not move over there, even with force.

What could be wrong?

What do i need to do to fix it?

Thanks

Try rotating the shift lever I had one that was bent on the bottom and you could turn the lever to a certain place and it would change like it was suppose to.I took a marker and mark the lever on top were it changed good, work fine when turn in that position.

There is a problem with the overdrive shifter rail or fork. The overdrive shifter is activated when you move the lever from one side of the quadrant to the other. The 730's also had a spring loaded lock on this rail, there could be a problem with that too. Can you still feel the spring when you push the lever to the bottom of the quadrant slot? If not, there could be something wrong with the lock on the overdrive shifter rail. Remove the shift quadrant-lever assembly and have a look inside. This isn't to tough, but if you need to remove the shift rails for repair, you'll need a good service manual to do the job. Deere's manual is very detailed and easy to understand.
