What would you like to know ? I've got the "Big Book Of John Deere Tractors" Which is a model-by-model encyclopedia. It's by Don Macmillan , and is published by Raincoast books, Vancouver, B.C.,Canada This book was just published this year, so I should post this up front as well.

J.R. Hobbs did a two-issue series on the 1010s in Green Magazine. The ag tractors (including a litle info on the grove and orchard model) were covered in the November 1994 issue with the industrial models covered the following month. Fun reading!

according to a back issue of tractor digest (vol.2, no.1, spring, 1995), the "orchard tractor, is an adaptation of the utility tractor. it came equiped with underneath exhaust, low-mounted headlamps, and wide fenders with side sheilds. it's the rarest of the '1010' models, with the exception of the one-only hi-crop." according to the production figures given on page 8 of this issue, only 63 gas versions and 9 diesel versions were produced during the production years 1962 through 1965. there's a photo of one on page 26. get a copy of this issue of tractor digest from 2 cylinder magazine for $7.00. according to the book "john deere new generation tractors," by peterson and beemer (page 57), the 1010 "grove and orchard tractor was added to the new generation line-up in 1962. the utility model was the basis of this tractor. its features included underslung exhaust, low-mounted headlights, side sheild, and wide fenders. it was outfitted to protect both the trees and the operator when working in groves and orchards. it could be ordered with the full range of options available for the 1010 tractors." the production figures given in this book show only 9 diesel models and one gas model being produced (not sure of the reason for the descrepency between the two sources).

Mel- Drop J.R.Hobbs a line at Green Magazine he will fill you in on New Generation tractors, they are starting to do articles on new generation tractors. I think there is a book advertised in Green Magazine dedicated to these tractors. Drop him a line or Mr. Thinker. Later Gman
