Tractor recommendations

I'm posting this on multiple boards to get the most options.

I have a '44 Ford 2n that I was hoping to use to pull my boat out of the water...not going to happen, not enough weight. This is not at a nice public boat launch, just at the shoreline of my cabin. Would filled tires add enough weight? They used to be filled but I got tired of the corroded valve cores leaking and drained them. I suppose I could fill them with anti freeze but how much weight would that add? How much weight can I add to a 2n?

And finally, what would your tractor recommendation be? I need something short, squatty, gas, wide front (dealing with a hill) and around 4000 pounds and under $5000. I'm guessing on the weight, I know the boat/motor/trailer weighs about 2500 pounds plus pulling it over a lip at the shore and up a slight incline at the lake.

Thank you for any ideas,

Joel B.

i live near guntersville lake in n al and i've seen a lot of different approaches to this problem. the one that looked like the best to me was this guy used an electric wench inside of a boat house built about 40 - 50 feet back up off of the lake and made a sled to ride on 2 inch channel rails down into the water. he left the sled in the water and just pulled his boat on and off the sled as needed. i don't know if this something you would consider or not but it sure worked nice for him. are you using the tractor for other things?

the 2 N I grew up on did not even have close to the brakes needed for that. And then there is the dilema of the clutch and one brake pedal being on the same side.

Better wear a life jacket lol

Fluid will help alot and maybe even some tire chains ?

As far as tractors old iron-- it's hard to beat a JD B model from 1948-1952 even a tricycle I'll take one where any Ford will go. Just set the wheels out wider. New iron-- a model 750 4x4 should out perform that Ford, but a larger 850,or 950 would be better choice.

can understand your needs but something about the 2N versus what you"re doing just doesn"t seem to fit. I would be concerned about a stall out and slippage into the water. Tires don"t have much grip wet and it seems like you need more weight. A good 4-5000 small diesel tractor with a creeper gear might be more preferable.
