I purchased a 1978 john deere 210 recently. I have a question about a pully that looks like when a mower deck is on the belt tension holds it a couple of inches hihger than with no attachments. With no attachments the pully actually rubs on part of the steering linkage. Is this normal? This 210 seems to be well maintained with excellent service records. I ggot the snow blade, mower deck, snow thrower, and dump cart inc for 1000.00 I hope it was a decent deal.

Sounds like the bracket that holds these pulleys that feed the deck are worn and is causing the rubbing. You could buy a new one one or pull the old one off and repair it by welding the worn spot to hold the bracket off the steering tie. Doesn't sound like you did bad on the deal, especially if everything is Deere. More info can be attained at Weekend Freedom Machines. Website dedicated to JD lawnmowers. Good luck, Jason.
