This engine is very difficult to start and sounds as if it is blowing air when it fires.
It has lost a lot of power and I remember when the carburetor was not shutting off and the engine combustion area must have filled with gasoline and I had a lot of difficulty getting the engine to turn over. I may have blew the head gasket when forcing the liquid gas out.
This does have an Automatiic Compression release valve built in internally which may be damaged?
I would hope someone can give me some ideas as to what could be wrong. All ideas will be appreciated as I may not have thought of something.
I did change the ignition module which had no effect.
Please help.
Jim

i'm not familiar with this engine, but on any engines i've ever had that got to much gas in the cylinders got the plugs so wet they wouldn't fire at all and the crankcase was filled with gas. just wondering if any of these showed up on your engine. just curious about running a compression check on the engine, but i don't know if you'd ever find what a normal reading would be. after fixing carb i'd go on and pull the head. i know it want be cheap from deere but you can probably find a kohler dealer that can fix you up with a gasket.

The problem was Head gasket blown in reply to johns48b, 06-08-2006 18:09:41
When I pulled the head the gasket was blown. After replacing the head gasket the motor runs and starts like new.

I am disappointed that I did not get much response from anyone but thought I should at least post how the problem was resolved.
Jim
