302a backhoe right rear axle slid out, how does it go back in? What holds the axle in is it just a snap ring before it gets to the planetary gear? How big of ajob is this? Any help is appreciated.

You will need to remove the entire axle housing from the transmission case to repair this. The axle shaft goes thru the housing and planetary, with a heavy bolt thru the planetary and into the axle shaft. There should be a lock plate over the bolt head to keep it from backing out.

Tom, thanks for the information. A follow-up questions are: Do I need to remove the entire axle housing, or just the one side? How do I take the housing off, just unbolt it from the case? What am I going to encounter once I unbolt it? Will it slide right out? the bolt that goes into the axle snapped. is it possible to replace it by taking the top cover off instead of removing the axle housing?
