I have a 39 B hand start.I need to take the flywheel off to replace the cork seal.I tried but the nuts would not move. There is know room to try and use a wrench because you can't move it back or foward.Should I use heat on the nuts? Any help would be appreciated.

Many flywheels have been taken of and replaced by using the box end of a common combination open- box end wrench. Turn the flywheel so the wrench is at about the 2 o'clock position and you should be able to move the nut enough to gradually loosen it up. If too tight to turn you might need to hook another large box end wrench onto the open end of the wrench on the nut to get extra leverage, but it will come unless the tractor has been sitting in salt all it's life.

John, I swear on my 38 B there was one position where I could get a 12 point box end wrench on and turn those nuts??? I used a flywheel wrench we made on my G, but the B didnt need it. Heat will of course make the nuts come off easier after you figure out what wrench to use. John T

John try to get you a flywheel wrench for the B. Check with Shorty Dear at usedears@arn.net. I bet he will have the wrench you need to get the nuts loose. Sometimes a 1/2 inch drive socket/ extension/ breakover, will get to those nuts
