Is there a way to lock and unlock the diff lock on a 1968 4020 off without using the hydraulic pressure from the front main pump. I want to remove the front hydraulic pump completly off tractor, I use the tractor only for tractor pulling and want to strip off all access weight to get it light.

I am assuming you are probably steering this tractor with a manual rack and pinion and braking it with add-on brake cylinders. I'm not sure if you could get enough pressure, but how would a 12-volt hydraulic pack work to activate the differential lock? Just a thought. Mike

Sounds like an accident ready to happen if the pump is removed.I would not let you pull if you didn't have good steering and brakes.By simply not turning the steering wheel or using the brakes the pump will not use any power since it will go out of stroke.Just remember to do this when you are near the end of your pull and need all the horses you can get.

Keep dreaming, its not going to work without hydraulic pressure. Your next thing to remember is that you will not be able to steer in very well or at all.

Doesn't the diff lock engage with the trans oil pump supply?
