I have a chance to purchase a 45 combine for 500 dollars. I am pretty sure the engine is stuck. It hasn't ran in several years. I looked it over though I have never messed with any combines it looks like it hasn't been used a whole lot. Snapping rollars have very little wear but could have been replaced. Is it worth the money?

I bought 2 one for 90.00 and one for 100.00 one had a running engine and was a rust bucket and the other one was a sound combine and a stuck engine.

Thanks for all the reply's One more question. I have a 1010 J Deere. Mr Thinker in Green Magazine say's that the motor from the 45 will bolt up in a 1010 but it is to powerful for the drivetrain. Could you take the Head off the 45 motor and put on the 1010. I need to do some valve work on the 1010.

Definitely not worth $500, especially with a stuck engine. You can get used JD 4400s for less than a $1000 that came out of the field. I bought one for $800 with new tires that the owner thought the engine was going bad...just had a plugged air cleaner. I did some minor maintenance items and gave it a tune up. I've used it on wheat and soybean acreage for 5 years and have only had to do routine maintenance. Had only 2500 hrs on seperator and was always shedded. Mine is a 292 gas and it loves gas so I'd look for a diesel but at $800 I couldn't complain. Lot of these smaller combines are around...I was looking at a JD 55 in field condition for $500 but found the JD 4400 first. Good luck...don't buy a bucket of bolts as combine parts are expensive if you don't have a parts machine.

If you want it buy it. If you get it home and monkey around with it and decide it's junk it's should be worth that much as scrap iron. Look at the fun you'll have messing around with it.
