Hey guys, I have oil leaking out around the pto of my 4010. We brushhogged with it for a while, parked it, and went back a few days later and found it sitting in a few gallons of fluid. So, I unbolted the 4 bolts of the pto, and removed the three bolts for the primary bearing and seal housing around it. When I did this the fluid started leaking out at a fast pace. When I removed this cover, I held it in my hands and inspected the seal and it looked fine, the tiny spring to put pressure on the seal was also in tact and in good shape. there is no play at all in the shaft when I inspected it upon removing the three bolt primary housing cover. What seal is leaking and how do I go about fixing it? How long will it take? Thanks!

Yes, You need to drain trans before doing that or expect all the oil to come out back end. Good time to change oil, clean sump screen and change filters too. The gasket can leak on large housing but it's usually just the seal in 3 bolt housing leaking on shaft. If the shaft is grooved and worn bad you may not be able to stop it without replacing or fixing shaft. You might can find a very thin ready sleeve that size if shaft is grooved bad and get by for a while yet. Later 20 series had a replaceable sleeve in that area but I don't think they put that in any 4010s. Also make sure oil wasn't coming out from the load control shaft too. You could have more than one leak to fix while the oil is drained out. You can view the parts in 4010 parts catalog at JD parts online by clicking on parts catalog in left column.

The pto shaft is hollow with a shift pin in it. The little o-ring around the shift pin may be shot.

Guys, thanks a heck of a lot for your info. Glen, thanks for the link. I found it very helpful...I printed up the sketch and the part # list. I will bring this to the dealership Monday morning in hopes ordering the gasket. Thanks!
