Hey guys, well, I let a few friends borrow my 4010 last week only to find that they never checked the hydraulic fluid levels before using it. It always leaked a very little bit around the PTO, but now, since they parked it, I lost what seemed to be the last 5 gallons or so which was in the tractor. The capacity for hydraulic fluid is 13 gallons. I don"t don"t quite understand why all the sudden THIS TIME the fluid was leaking sooo much more than usual. . So, the 3-bolt housing was in bad shape, the outer lip of the casting was cracked pretty bad, so I decided to find a better used one (part is obsolete)and install a new seal in it and I also have a new gasket. the old seal seams to be working fine though, but I looked a little closer, and I think that I have been losing fluid through the shift pin, behind the PTO adapter and not the 3-bolt bearing housing and seal. Anyone know if it is common to have to change the tiny 0-ring on the shift pin? About how tough of a job is this and how long should it take? I assume what happened is that possibly the rear-end of the tractor was lacking enough lubrication and it got HOT and maybe distorted this little o-ring on the shift pin? Is there any other way fluid can leak from the PTO besides the main bearing seal and the shift pin 0-ring? Hmmm, anyway, any help would be appreciated. thanks!!

Someone else on here was recently having same problem with PTO leaking. Yes, you can replace the o rings easy enough and gaskets and seal but may also want to pull the larger plate too and replace that gasket if it's leaking too and check the bearings since they ran it down low. Also check to see if you supect leaks out of the load control shaft for 3 point. Good time to change filters and clean or replace the trans sump pump screen too while you have it drained. You can view the parts breakdown at JD Parts online by going to parts catalog and entering 4010.
