when i was in rotc in college we shined our brass and our shoes real good then we would coat them with liquid floor wax. that way we didn't have to shine then for at least three or four weeks. i don't know how this would hold up in your application but if nothing else helps try it.

John, A good acrylic clear sealer will do the job just fine. If you are clear coating the paint that should work. I've used the ones from paint stores but not the cheapy stuff from big stores as it may stay cloudy and not dry clear. A good one I use in aerosol cans is from Graingers, SprayOn clear acrylic sealer SO2000, Grainger # 1D273, resists fungus, chemicals, dirt & grease, dries 4-20 mins., weatherproofs, waterproofs, dielectric strength 8000 VPM, meets MIL-TTL-50G, for use on wiring, batteries, metal, paper documents, printed circuit boards, chrome & bright work, wood & leather surfaces, & ignition sealer. Sherwin Williams makes it. >Link

If>Link you don't like that one Eastwood has a clear coat in spray cans too. eastwoodco.com

Glen,

Have you used this on battery terminals/poles/cables and has it prevented the inevitable oxidizing??? If so, I am in.

Thanks,
tstex

Yes, I've used it on batteries if you want a clear coat but it's not what I prefer on batteries. It's more of a electrical insulating acrylic and weatherproofer. Nothing is going to prevent corrosion on old terminals, cables and acid leaks at battery. I prefer the foaming battery cleaner that changes colors when it's done neutralizing acid from NAPA or Belden and their battery terminal sealer that is red or clear. Use a film of white lithium grease or silicone grease (NOT dielectric!) on the terminals and cables for a longer lasting connection from corrosion.
