The other guys got you covered I think if it's a Wico C or XH or Fairbanks Morse J2 or X2 then top terminal on cap goes to LH #1 flywheel side and those mags fire on both compression and exhaust so wires can be switched if 180 off. If it has gear reduction rotor like Wico AP or Edison Splitdorf CD then forward terminal goes to LH cyld. If it's a FM DRV I'm not remembering which one now but you will know as if not right the gear reduction ones have to be retimed again and not just switch wires around as those mags fire on compression only. Also was a few Bosch mags made for them that used forward terminal to LH cyld.

i never thought about it before but does it make a difference? can't you just swap holes with the plug wires if you get the timing half off? thanks.

Yep if you have the mag on 180 out you just put the left hand plug wire on the bottom hole and the right hand one on the top hole which by the book is wrong but it works just as good. My 1935 B is like that and I'm just to lazy to pull the mag and turn it back to the way it should be and it has been that way for at least 4 years now

Left side is #1 and the top hole in the mag should go to the left side. But depending on what type of mag you have the mag can be put on 2 ways. One is correct and the other is 180 out and will work just fine as long as you switch the top and bottom wire. Now there are some mags that are not like that but I can't tell you any thing about them

#1 is on the left or flywheel side. I believe the top post on the mag cap is to #1. At least it is on my 44 A.
