I"m having trouble getting good fire out of a c-mag, The rotor seems to have a little drag on the outside armature? because it seems to have a tiny dragging noise, but no scratches etc.. Would this make it weak if all other things are good? pts, cond. coil all work good in another mag, cap also. Getting tired of changeing around. This is a later c also. Thanks for any help

The bushings inside for the magnet shaft are probably just worn and when the impulse trys to catch it pushes the magnet to one side against the housing laminations dragging. Bushings and shaft and impulse parts have to be not worn or it will cause weak, no fire or erratic firing. New bushings come undersize and reamed to fit old shaft and after putting in air gap needs to between magnet and laminations and no dragging. Sometimes housing laminations have to be honed out some or magnets smoothed up but not everyone should attempt and risk ruining something as the screws can be real tight to get loose for those and they should be riveted and not come loose out of line.

Hopefully your C has a raised 2 or 3 on side of casting and that designates it's one of the later made improved C housings. Early C mags had rotor tubes that bushing fit in come loose inside of aluminum housing. They fixed the problem once with a better tube anchoring but then during WWII years good aluminum was not available and some more housings had tubes coming loose inside. Wico made a factory effort to fix that by replacing those but many still out there that didn't get replaced before that program expired and by then the Wico XH was coming out also. When that steel tube comes loose in aluminum all you can do is find another housing or mag and part the other one out. They also had same problems back then with some screws coming loose that held shaft to magnet.
