Hello Johns48b,

I'm trying to put a face with a name. Did you by any chance show your B and trailer at the Lawrenceburg, TN show in the past? I remember meeting a fellow from AL that had the same type setup you are describing with a mounted planter on the B. If so, I was really impressed with the setup. As a matter of fact, my wife and I stopped and talked with the guy that owned this display and it inspired me to go out and buy a B also. If I remember, there was also a walk behind type horse drawn plow that was in the exhibit as well. I've got a 51 B now, but haven't restored it yet due to some other projects I've been working on.

hi, yes i am the guy that has the jd b with the planters on it and a trailer that i have full of old farm stuff. i also let the kids shell corn and pump water with an old hand pump and wash clothes on a scrub board. thats what i enjoy the most. i use to show quit a bit but have had one problem right after another with different things and haven't got to show any for the past three years. my old motor home kept running hot on me and i finally broke down and had to put new heads on it and this year i've had surgery and delt with a lot of pain until i had the hernia fixed. i'm also put to sleep every 3 months and shots put in my back for back and leg pain. in the last 5 weeks my mother had back surgery on monday and fell in the hospital on tue night and broke her hip and had to have surgery on it on fri. sun they put her back to sleep and found out she had an ulcer. she's 85 and drives her self to work everyday. since the surgery she developed fluid in the lungs and has been in and out of intensive care twice and is back in there now. we are holding out much hope for her to live this time. i have been able to make it down to blount county each year for a farm day show that the ffa boys put on for every second grader in blount county. they bus them to an inside arena and have every type on farm animal on display. they came around to a show i was at and asked me to bring my display down and show it to all the kids. they furnish me corn for the kids to shell and i give them a quick tour of my trailer and its an all day thing from 8 until about 2 each year. i enjoy doing that very much. i'm glad that i had some influence on your wanting to get into tractor restoration. you'll never meet a nicer class of people any where (unless they are farmall guys). i've never been to a show where i didn't see things i've never seen before and learn something about some piece that i was showing in my trailer. i especailly enjoyed showing that walking cultivator off. i would watch for older guys to spot that thing and they would walk over to it and grab the handles on it and you could see the blood drain out of their face. i'd give them a minute to enjoy their memories and then i would walk over and say to them "why did you grab those handles, you don't know knowing about that piece of equiptment". they would be quick to let me know they knew a damn lot about it and would proceed to tell me all the stories of things they remebered about their childhood on the farm. you talk about having a day made, they certainly made mine. thanks for the note and with a little luck i'll be at lawerenceburg next year. i meant to go this time and i just couldn't make it. the last time i was at eagleville i spent more time away from the show than i did at it. guys and gals would come by and want to know if i would like to go see their colection of things and i'd get in their truck and go. i'd leave my trailer and displays set up and have never had a thing stolen at a show. i've gone off to look at something during a show and get back and there would be a couple of old wrenches or a draw knife that somebody would leave me. sometime later they would come by and tell me that they wanted me to have their dads tools because nobody in his family was interested in anything like that and he knew that i would add the piece to my display and if i did that would make him fell good. of course i was always glad to do that. well take care and when your wife tells you that your spending to much time and money on that old tractor tell her that you could be down at the local night club giving the money to the dancers down there and she'll see things your way real quick. good luck with your project and em me at johns48b@aol.com if you need some help findings parts or what ever. of course this site is the best place to go for advice on certain problems. get your self the right manuals and have fun. thats whats this is all about.
