Working on a R pony motor. Rebuilt the carb, cleaned out the tank and fuel lines, new plugs and wires, good spark from the mag, but it still will not run right. I will start but it acts like it it not getting enough fuel. Cannot get any RPM"s our of it. It might run for 15 to 30 seconds, then it dies. We have bypassed the air inlet to make sure it is getting enough air. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Would like to see if it will turn the big motor over without pulling it each time.

Make sure that the fuel line is clean on the inside. There is a anti drainback check valve that is soldered in the fuel inlet fitting that holds the screen. That thing caused me a bunch of trouble on my R. I had to de-solder it with a torch, clean it in carb dip and re-solder it back to the fuel line. Now it works great.

The pony motor on my R has a rod to adjust the richness of the fuel. I start mine and then move the rod ever so slightly until it is running on both cylinders and at the proper RPM. I think if I put a grommet around the rod then I probably would not have to hold the rod. I turn my rod about a quarter of a turn is all and then fine tune from there.

Make sure that there are no pin holes or air leaks in the fuel suction tube.
