Hey John it sure looks GREAT! Like the brass! Those spoke wheels sure did set it off too. What kind of paint did you end up using there? Yep for those that want to know a Fairbanks Morse DRV2B could have came on it originally and then most likely got replaced by a Wico C as that is what JD replaced them with and then the later XH. By then FM had began discontinuing the DRV2 replacing it with a FM-J2A6 but JD was using Wico or Edison Splitdorf mags then and only a mag repair shop or independent dealer would have sold someone the FM mag as a replacement. Better mag designs replaced the DRV2 and sometimes you can buy 2 or 3 Wicos for what some want for a FM DRV2 mag now. Try fixing some FM RV mags right yourselves and you'll know why too. Usually takes 2-4 to make a good one or more $$$ for NOS parts and more labor. Wico made some bad C mags earlier too but that was fixed by them and wasn't all their fault when they couldn't get good aluminum during war years. The Wico XH is still made new today and the only reasonably priced new mag out there now.

That is absolutely THE most finely detailed B
I have seen.AWESOME JOB!!! Question: Did that
year B come with a Wico or Fairbanks Morse
magneto? Or both? If you had a choice would
you use the Wico or the Fairbanks Morse? Thank You CalJim

My best guess is it likely originally came equipped with a Wico C Mag but maybe a Wico X by those years, Duane Larson could probably tell us from his great collection of data (SN 49635). I think the Fairbanks Morse RV2A (think thats the one??) is the most beautiful Mag, its huge n aluminum and looks like a V2 engine and polishes up beautiful but from what little data I have dont believe it came on this tractor plus parts may be a bear to find.

My preference is the Wico X cuz they have a bearing where the older C had a bushing,,,,, ,,parts are readily available and relatively inexpensive,,,,, ,,I believe them to be capable of producing more spark gap energy then the C,,,,, ,,, Glen in Texas refurbished it, I usually replace points n condensors n coils n can springs myself and install a shiny new cap but a professional rebuilder like him can recharge the rotor and use the heavy duty spring with the smaller washer etc etc so the spark they produce when they snap can be used to weld with lol I have it and the carb fine tuned n timed to where she starts with ONE PULL unless someone is watching or you brag on it in which case it likely wouldnt start with a stick of dynamite so I better shut up.

Im still not finished detailing, Ive got some green foam brush touch up to do n have to fine tune touch up the wheel yellow in a few places and foam brush touch up that Eastwood high temp paint on the manifold a lil more but should have it done in a few days. THE CHALLENGE NOW is to keep the gas from getting stale and the carbs needle n seat from varnishing up, Im using Sta Bil and Marine 2 cycle oil in the gas and plan to add some marine fuel stabilizer yet and start it at least every few weeks over the winter.

Thanks,

John T

I'll try this year, but it might conflict with a trip to Europe. Everytime I say it might happen, there always seems to be a conflict.

On a lot of it like the lil brass washers on my throttle linkages and my radiator shuttle control linkage I have clear coated it along with my zerks and Ive sprayed the carbs brass with clear coat so time will tell what happens????

John T -- What I see is an excellent job! I especially like the notion of brass parts remaining raw brass -- and what appears to be stainless steel cap screws is a nice touch too! I liked that. My congrat's also to Glen in TX for one fine looking WICO X Magneto rebuild -- outstanding! (PatB)

Thanks Pat, we all know a lot of that brass was painted over originally (and NOT used on the throttle n shutter linkages) and they sure didnt use Stainless Steel in the few choice dressy locations I chose but it looks so purdyyyyy lol

John, that is really, really nice. We had one that I drove as a kid in 1950. Don't know what year the one we had was but I pulled a 5 disk oneway over many acres with it. I never remembered it failing to start or having to pull it to start it. Good job.

Its a 1938 Long Frame, in late 37 at SN 42,200 they stretched the frame 5 inches so the A cultivators would fit them, then they went styled in 1939 and increased the bore to 4 1/2 and added the compression relief petcocks.

Take care Old
