Hey everybody, Just bought my first tractor a month ago, a 1954 JD 60 with a schwartz wide front. I was looking at the picture ads and saw a similar tractor, but on that one the wide front mounting platform stuck out in front of the tractor. Where as on mine it is flush with the nose of the tractor. They put washers between the frame of the tractor and the front end to make it even. My question is which one is the proper way, and if mine is wrong do you see any problems with keeping it that way. Thanks for your help.

Here is a picture of the 52 model 60 I bought not too long ago. The casting numbers match my parts manual, so I assume it to be genuine JD wide front.

Yours likely came with a Roll-O-Matic from the factory and a previous owner replaced the ROM with an aftermarket wide front. Schwartz happens to be a slightly better aftermarket WF, but if you're a stickler for original you'll need to hunt down a ROM for around $150 or a factory Deere WF for around $1000. This one in the ads is also an aftermarket. It's just another brand - maybe Norden. He likely replaced a ROM as well.
