What is the reason for my JD1010W(backhoe)
having a positive ground, with a 12volt
battery.
If I need too boost battery with my truck
how should the cables be hooked up.
Thank You for your help Joe

The reason for the positive-ground - goes way back to early automotive electrical engineering days. There were two opposed schools of thought about the direction electricity flows - with two competing theories - the Hole Theory, and the Electron Theory. Depending which theory you put your hopes in led to choosing either positive - or negative ground. It was believed, by those of either school-of-thought that choosing the right grounding would provide advantages - such as less corrosion in connections, fram metal, etc. Now - many years later - it has been proven that both ways of grounding have their good and bad and none seems better than the other overall. Thing is - when tranisistors and other semi-conductors became commonly used - a polartity had to be chosen and stuck with - for parts standardization. Negative ground was chosen, and that's how just about all alternators, radios, etc. are designed for.

You match the polarity of the cables to the polarity of the BATTERY, at both ends... Red to (+) post, black to (-) post.

DO NOT allow metal parts of the tractor and the boost vehicle to touch, as that will cause a short, since the ground polaritys are opposite.
