I must have a bad infection or disease.
Went to buy a 290 planter yesterday and came home with the planter and a complete set of cultivators - front and rear for a JD A - and I'm a Ford man...
The guy I bought them from says they were on his hand start A when he bought it. Cultivating with an A is kind of like swatting flies with a sledge hammer isn't it?
Anyway, He says they will fit on either an A or a B so I'm asking you experts here if he is right.
I might have them sold already but the guy has a B and I don't want to misrepresent them.
He's just going to do some scratching the soil for deer plots.
Will they fit on his B?
Many thanks
Jerry

Guys he said they were on a hand start A. If they were from that era then they would not be quick-tack and would not have cross brackets. The would be in two sections that are mounted one side at a time, bolting to the frame with the braces bolting to the front of the tractor. In either case they will work on either the A or B.

ET is right they will fit but the front brackets are a little wider, I had one on the 50 from a 60 and it worked fine, also had to flip over the top bracket to line up with the pin hole, some models wont have this problem as top bracket was just a bar had no hole in it. Curious what you paid for it, sold mine on ebay for about 85 it was a stiff shank I wanted a spring tooth style, Now that I dont have one and am looking everyone thinks there made of Gold,I guess Ill keep lookin.

The cultivator will work but the frame is wider on the A. There are diffrent upper and lower cross brackets for the front of quick atatch frames.

Yes, they should fit fine. My neighbor bought a JD cultivator for his WWII A (42,3,4?) and his brother used it on his old B and then the neighbor bought a new '49 A and then his brother-in-law bought a '52 B. It fit on all of those tractors. They got away with having just one cultivator. I have to point out that they all had the Quick-Tach set up on all of the tractors and the cultivator. Otherwise the JD cultivator is a real bear to get on and off. They are a good tough cultivator.

They should fit the B. Deere made the frames longer around 1938-39 I think it was, so the cultivators and planters could be used on either the A or B.

Got my lines mixed up.
Title should have been "Cultivators for a JD A"
