Jim, my parts CD shows they started to use them (2 used) (AB3144R) at serial number 547261 which would be mid to late 1945 model. It does not show one for a 44. Double check this with your Deere dealer. What kind of a problem are you having with it?

When it is running the fan or maybe the fan shaft makes a terrable rattling noise. When it is not running I can move the fan not only aroung but up and down as well as side to side.I thought maybe they had friction plates in them and mine was shot.

Sounds like you have the same problem I had on my '50 A. At least one of the friction plates had disintegrated, and it sounded like the fan was eating the radiator. The mechanic I hired to help me prefers removing the fanshaft and governor to twisting off the radiator mounting bolts. Since the gov was off we rebuilt it. A few more bolts and a few more bolts permitted us to grind the valves and put in new rings. Same problems were found on my brothers '46 A which we suspected had also pitched a weight. Someday I will add up the parts cost for each.
