Cyber thieves have been thick on Ebay, but its generally easy to spot the scams. They will give some reason not to use the "ask seller a question" feature and list a different email address in the body of the auction. They will also give a phone number, if they say the owner is out of the country, its a scam. They will frequently list a "buy it now" price in the body of the auction, but not through the "Buy-it-now" feature provided by Ebay. They will sometimes tell you the item has been inspected by Ebay and/or is stored in Ebay warehouses. Ebay never inspects anything and doesn't have any warehouses. Beware of any auction that circumvents any Ebay protocol. Go to Ebay, do a search for "horse trailer" and look on the left side under Related Guides, open the guide titled "Horse trailer scams". I wrote it. I've been tracking the cyber thieves for two years and have learned their tricks and report their scams to Ebay on a daily basis.

HELLO. IT IS A SCAM. I PURCHASED THIS TRACTOR ON EBAY. I AM NOT THE ONE TRYING TO SELL IT NOW. I CONTACTED THE PERSON I BOUGHT IT FROM THROUGH EBAY TO TELL HIM ABOUT IT. HE SAID THE TRACTOR IS SITTING IN HIS YARD UNDER A TARP IN WISCONSON. hwarrior23 E-MAILED ME AND TOLD ME ABOUT IT BEING FOR SALE IN THE PHOTO ADS, AND THANKS TO HIM. I DON'T HAVE A PROBLEM BUYING FROM PHOTO ADS, JUST DON"T SEND MONEY AHEAD OF TIME. I DID REPORT IT.

Lots of scams poping up lately and this hurts the honest people try to sell.

Personally I won't buy anything I can't go look at first. I seem to have COMPLETLY different standards by which I describe my stuff then others.

I don't mean to imply that toycollector76 has anything to do with this add. I am just saying someone else may be trying to pull a fast one and to be careful.

If you are talking about the 1936 JD BR, I would research it thoroughly first. This tractor was sold last week on ebay to a gentleman whose ebay name is toycollector 76 for $6857.00 from Hixton WI. Exactly the same photo's and description offered by this seller, including the exact same serial number. I emailed him and he says he has had this tractor for three years. BUYER BEWARE!!!!!

Buyer beware for sure. I got burned once so bad it just totally destroyed my trust in the (and I know there are out there) honest sellers.

After all it probably just makes a little noise in 3rd gear and the clutch needs a little adjustment. And I can't believe how that JD paint goes over rust and dirt and grease and it looks so good on a photo add.

This ole dog got broke of sucking eggs o the first go around.

good luck

I have sold several tractors in the adds and am helping an 82 friend who has several tractors sell 3 tractors. We have sold 2 and he has a 630 left. The adds and advise are straight forward. I"ve found that internet or YT people are generally straight forward. Naturally you have to get photos and speak to people and make up your own mind but by in large my experience has been great. Good buyers and good sellers but you need to check out matters.

i've always thought that if anybody had a real good tractor for sale somebody he was close to would buy it, at least someboddy from his home town. if he can't sell it there it must have some problems. i'd never buy something like that without putting hands on first.

I have to completely agree with johns48b, there are only two reasons to put a tractor on E-Bay,you are either misrepresenting it in one way or another or it is way over priced. If niether one of these is true, then you won't have any trouble selling it within 100 miles of where you live, either through an add or word of mouth. A good tractor at a fair price has no reason to be on E-Bay!! If you spend money without seeing and driving it,you are a fool,no two ways about it.

The why in the hell didnt you buy my tractor on ebay? It went for a very fair price, and the person who bought it knew too. Good deals are made on Ebay everyday. The note you wrote here, probably best describes something you would do.

Smartass.

Did he hear it run and drive it??? If he didn't then he has more money to waste than I do. That's not being a smart *ss,it's just being smart. It's not just E-Bay,I see people at farm and consignment auctions that will bid a tractor right up to top dollar after barely hearing it idle for 2 minutes.Stupid! Why does anyone test drive a car before buying it then?? Only an idiot would buy a car without hearing it run and driving it.I am not seeing the difference here. Has nothing to do with trust,it's just smart bussiness. I can see using E-Bay to locate a tractor, but your definition of "nice paint" or "runs good" will never be the same as mine or anybody elses. I have one friend who is 5 for 5 being screwed buying off E-Bay. Worst thing is, he just makes up excuses and won't admit it.Pride is a powerful thing,I guess. Guess I just value my money more than some.

buying off of eBay in reply to B-maniac, 10-19-2006 10:04:53
I completely disagree with you when you say the only reason a tractor is on eBay is that if it is misrepresented or too highly priced. I have sold 60 tractors on eBay so far this year, And they have went to up to 1200 miles away. I just sold a 60 orchard that goes to upstate New York and I am from Minnesota. I told in the description that the tractor was as rough as rough could be, no usable sheetmetal, etc. I sell on eBay for this reason, You are getting so much more exposure. I could take that 60 to a consignment auction where maybe 100 people will see it, I can put it on eBay and 1200 people will see it. Check the sellers feedback I have over 2400 feedback with only 15 negatives. So please dont bash us eBay sellers

It's only my opinion being stated. The ones I'm "bashing" know who they are,and the honest ones shouldn't take offense. When I ordered the decals for my personal "B" from Travis Jorde,I spoke to him on the phone and he sent me the kit UPS with the invoice enclosed and I sent him the money and thanked him for being so trusting and he thanked me for being so honest and that's the way I do bussiness and thankfully so does he. Maybe "ole school" but the feedback will be 100% positive.

There are a lot of tractors out there from fence row specials to completely restored. I would pass on the one you are speaking of. Sounds shaky to me.
