Brandon's Wierd Deere site has info on the Industrials. You can link to it through Rummy's Johnny Popper site.HJ

Seems parts should not be hard to find. Either a 106 cubic inch 2-53 Detroit Diesel, or a 113 cubic inch Deere gas engine. With the latter, as other's have already mentioned, I think an engine from a 40, 420, or 430 will fit fine. The two cylinder engine - 113 cubic inches, uses the same bolt pattern as the four-cylinder used in 1010 gas engines of 115 cubic inches - but obviously, the four-cylinder 1010 engine will be longer and the 440 flywheel may not fit. I know of many places that have two-cylinder engine parts - very easy to find - but might be hard to pay for.

You have been talking to the wrong people. If the cam is flat then likely the engine has take on a load of water and or dirt. May as well pull it apart and repair all it now instead of later. A used cam & cam followers are a waste of time. The cam and followers require refacing before installation. Depending on the serial number the late 440's had a souped high HP engine that could cary a load. 1-800-522-7448 for the service and parts manuals you will require.

The gas motor is the same as a 440 Ag tractor and in fact almost all parts are the same as a 420/430. The interchange is good on these and many parts will fit and work even if they are not the same. I think you have a nice machine and you should feel good about having it. As far as a four cylinder replacement, the two cylinder is a better engine that the 1010 which you MIGHT be able to fit in there if you replaced almost everything from the transmission forward. I think any 420/430 cam will work. Others, like Lavoy might have a better idea. You could check with him.
