How does one time a FMJ mag to a two cylinder model A ? I believe this works differently than a Wico mag.

Yep like Duane said the same as a Wico. The dist. rotor is on the same shaft as drive end like a Wico C or XH. If you have it timed correct should use the top hole in cap for LH #1 cylinder on flywheel side and lower hole for RH cylinder and with engine on #1 TDC and mag with top hole to fire lugs should be horizontal and line up. If you get it off 180º just switch the wires around. FM-J2A6 and FM-X2A6 were base mount mags and FM-J2B6 & FM-X2B6 were flange mount mags. Both the J & X used the same dist. caps and dist. rotors but difference was in points and bearing bracket. If you see a B or E suffix after the 6 in number it probably has a 25º short lug impulse for gasoline instead of the standard furnished 35º impulse for all fuel burners and there would be no suffix after 6. There was also a D suffix that could designate long lug 35º impulse on flange mount mag and a F suffix to designate 25º long lug impulse on flange mount mag.

John,
If you have a FMJ2B6 magneto, the timing process is the same as for the Wico C or XH magnetos. The main difference is the lag angle on the FMJ is not adjustable. You must also have the proper long or short drive cup similar to the Wico magnetos.

If you have a FMJ magneto with other letters/numbers after the FMJ, post back as there may be some differences. The 2B6 (and possibly another letter after the 6) will be stamped in on one side near the FMJ casting.
