We took the carburetor up to a well-known carburetor specialist by the name of Ray Buetel, Lockport, NY yesterday. He test ran it on his John Deere H. Big problem. The carburetor was dismantled-taking all "new" parts out. We have found that "rebuilding a carb" by some means just putting "new parts" in sandblasting/painting and sending it back to the customer. WRONG! All tolerances/holes should all be checked to make sure there is no slop/drilled out holes by prior hands, etc. Right now, we believe that the nozzle hole in the carb is out of round and someone drilled it out--making it larger--so the nozzle did not seat in properly. It fit very sloppy causing the tractor to not get the appropriate amount of fuel on the high end of throttle up or working. Our advice to all, please know who is rebuilding the carb and ask alot of questions on what they do. They need to check a carb thoroughly in "all aspects". These carbs are over 50 years old + and should be fixed/corrected for any amount of wear, etc if possible. We ended up with another carb body and he took our "core" in. He used all our "new parts" and rebuilt his. He did well by us, and we appreciated him clearing this situation up. He is 2 1/2hrs away, but was worth the journey. Ray retested on his H before we brought it home. Jeff put the carb back on this H here, and it runs great now! SO BEWARE! We learned a valuable lesson the hard way!!! It wasted our time and our customer's. Thanks for all help/ suggestions. Was greatly appreciated. We wanted to make sure we had covered all basis. We are www.agriculturalmemoriesmuseum.com.
