I know this question gets asked alot but wanted to confirm again. I'm finishing up the rearend of my 39 H and replaced all bearings in it. I have a 5 gal bucket from NAPA of straight GL1 mineral gear oil at 90 wgt. Is this a good oil to run in the H for the transmission?

Thanks.

90 w will work but you'll have less leaks on new paint with 140 w.

Glen -- If he restored his tractor in accord with the JD-H Restoration Guide, he won't have any leak issues! (PatB)

If he isn't going to farm or work with it in winter cold the 80 or 90 isn't needed. It darn sure keeps the Ds and others from leaking less with straight 140 than the 85w140 or 90w. What do our operators manuals recommend for warm weather when the majority of these are run anyway? For 32º and up 140w and below 32º the 90w. I got a leak right now on lower side of a H cover that's been off twice and has 90 in it now and I'm going back with 140 next trip myself.

Glen,

Thanks for the info. I'll see if I can find some 140wt.

That 140 will maike the gears a little quieter, too.
