Anybody have any info on this wide front end? I have tried to attach a pic and hope it shows up. It has no ID on it except for a GM part number on the spindle. Problem is that I need a bearing for it. The outer race is really chewed up. NAPA says the outer is $80 and the inner is $130. Apparently they are old auto bearings and aren't made much anymore. They don't list any type of roller bearing conversion for it. Will probably just clean it up, pack the bearings and put it back together. It doesn't get run much anyway. Just thought somebody might have a little history on the front end. Thanks.

I know the type of bearings you are talking about and the older JDs used those type in fan shaft and governors. You can google the bearing numbers but I doubt you will find any much cheaper but it might be worth a try. Front end looks shop made and for price of those bearings you could almost buy a whole new spindle and hub assembly and weld it on there. What are the bearing numbers you need? Some of us on here might have some and know I have 4 or 5 or New Departure bearings like that in bins.

Glen,

Thanks for the reply. I did google the bearing numbers with no luck. The bearings themselves don't look too bad, but the outside race is really chewed up.

New Departure #s

909662 Race
909762 Bearing

909625 Race
909725 Bearing

There are two races per bearing. An inner and outer and they have the same numbers.

I thought about welding a new assembly hub/spindle on there. I figure it won't hurt anything to run it like it is.

Ok, I'll check the bearings I have tomorrow. Just remember going through same thing with old 29 Chevy axle under a old trailer and I ended up changing axle out finally. You can always add some shim washers for now to tighten it up more too if not that bad.

Glen,

Thanks for checking. I'm sure there are a bunch of these bearings in boxes laying around somewhere. The classic car guys have to deal with this all the time. I will check out the bearing link you gave me.

John, I hope A&W or someone else had the bearing you need. The ones I had didn't match so no luck there. Here are a few more to try.

Glen,

A&W appears to have the bearings for $40 per set (bearing and race). I did run across A&W on a google search. I found the bearing number but it comes up with a form to get a quote. I just emailed them and they replied the same day.

I have a bit of a problem though. I pulled the other wheel and its innards are in good shape. However, the race numbers don't agree with what I had for the other side. I will have to pull it again to check. One was so rusty it was hard to read the numbers. Never easy.

Thanks again for your help.
