John Deere LA Fan Assembly

I am restoring my first 1941 John Deere "LA" tractor. The previous owner put an alternator and a different fan assembly on it. I want to put it back to original. I purchased a used fan assembly, and the pulleys line up perfect but the fan is only about an eighth of an inch from touching the radiator. Is there more than one fan assembly that fits that tractor, or is there something I don't know about? Thanks for any response!

I, too, own a 1941 JD LA. It has the original generator and pulley setup. I have the same problem as you in that my fan blades are very very close to the radiator. I would guess perhaps an 1/8 inch to 3/16 of an inch. I guess this is just the way it was designed.

Lot's of different ones. Do you have a serial number? Off the top of my head I think there are about 10 different set up's between the -L-;-LA-'s;and -LUC-/-LUS-/-LUW- motors.
