Guys, I have a question about my newly turbocharged 4010. I used a 4320 kit, but I used an m&w connection pipe to go from the impeller side of the turbo to the stock rubber pipe which goes over the radiator to what was the old intake pipe. This m&w pipe is too wide as it passes back by the turbo. It is pushing my hood out a good inch or better. Is it possible to just use a k&n cannister on the impeller side of the turbo? Is there really any way to do away with all of this plumbing to the old oil pan air filtration system. Possibly even remove the old air cleaner stem an bowl assembly above the hood? Would a canister still be fine to do field work with? Thanks! PS. MSB, need ya buddy!!

Dont go the K&N route- it'll "suck-in" when it really starts to pull air.

Your best solution would be to use a late 4020 air filter assembly(paper filter). You may have to redo the piping to the turbo but a decent exhaust shop should be able to make up a new tube if you can't. One of those cone filters would be OK for a quick run down the track but I wouldn't consider it for one second in a field enviornment.Even just serviced and oiled they still pass an awful lot of fine material, which will cause severe engine wear. Also a cone filter large enough to flow the amount of air needed on a turboed 404 will be just as large as the stock filter housing.
