Our family were Deere dealers for over 50 years. I was raised around older Deere tractors.
One of the ways my Dad had to augment his income in the tough times was to import a product called
Hi-Compression Products, an attachment that enabled the distillate burning tractors to burn gasoline.
We removed the cylinder head, installed an insert in the block. The insert was held in place
with an adaptor in the spark plug hole, this also
enabled the use of the Champion J-8 spark plug. We also changed the manifold.
Dad got the Canadian distributorship for these kits, we shipped them all over western Canada.
Anyone remember these kits?

I think you are talking about the Hollingsworth compression inserts. I posted a old ad for them on here last winter. We have found them in JD Ds many times but I don't think they worked well as every engine we pulled them out of was all carboned up so we milled down blocks and heads and put in high compression pistons instead. Link to the Hollingsworth ad.

Pretty hard to mill heads as valves were even with head on these early models. Also machine shops were not very prevelent in the 40"s so the inserts did the job to raise compression enough to increase power on gas. Lower compression worked great on tractor fuel for a long burn but gas didnot produce as long a burn and higher compression added a few more horsepower.

Dad had a set installed in his 1941 B, around 1948 as I remember. Later on he bought a Heisler Hi-Compression head from Tractor Supply for his B.
