I will be putting the motor back together on my 37 JD unstyled A soon, and I would like to know what the torque should be on the head bolts, and also the rod bolts. Also, should the head gasket be put on dry or what. This forum is wonderful and any info. would be appreciated.

For the torque values, go to the JD-H Restoration Site (below) and one-click on TORQUE VALUES.

As for the head gasket, as many as will respond - that is how many opinions you will recieve. With some kind of a treatment or without it, the key lies in clean and well-lubricated studs & stud nut combinations, flatness of the mating surfaces, and attention to detail in bringing those stud nuts to tension.

Once the engine has been brought to operating temperature (180° or better), I recommend re-torque of the head stud nuts, and ALSO recheck of the tappet settings because if the head stud nuts draw up any at all, the prior tappet settings are null & void. (PatB)
