Hi there, my brother-in-law just got a JD 60 and he was wondering if that model of tractor used positive or negative ground? There was no battery in it so it is hard to tell..Anyways, I thought someone here might know...it seems like a late model as it has the good seat, the rollamatic front end and power steering...

If the battery cables are still attached take a look to see which cable is grounded. If it's positive grounded the terminal on that cable will have the larger of the two since the negative post is smaller on the battery. Hal

Hook up the battery positive ground. Then turn on the lites & ign & see how the amp gauge reads. If it is on discharge, that is the way it was last time.

It was originally Positive ground, but many got changed over including some to an alternator, almost alllll l of which would have been converted to Negative ground. If its still a Generator I suggest you Polarize the genny after you install a battery but BEFORE you start it, and if you have no idea about its polarity Id try Positive ground first UNLESS its an alternator, then use negative ground no polarization required....

The 60 had 12 volt positive ground from the factory It could have been converted to negative ground if it has an alternator vs a generator. If you have the serial number, you can get the exact year by clicking the "Serial Numbers" tab under "Research and Info" on the toolbar on the left side of this page.

Are you gonna restore it, work it, or restore it then work it?
