I just bought an old JD 2 bottom 14" plow. It has spoke wheels, rubber tires, clevis hitch, and has an old JD decal that says "No.14 Frame" on it. It is hydraulic lift. Any ideas what I have?

Ralph is right except about it must be a 14" plow. The #44 was one of the few plows with reverseable standards that could be switched and effectively change the size of the bottom needed because they were offset. In your case you may choose between 12" and 14" by swapping the standards side to side. Obviously this would only work on a two bottom plow.

I think Dean is right. The 14 would indicate 14" bottoms. Built '45 to '57. The 52 was an earlier plow with one-piece beams with cross sections similar to a walking plow. The beams on the 44 were two-piece (rectangular bar stock)with the standard bolted to the main beam with plates. The plow came in 4 varieties, i.e. 44, 44H, 44A, 44AH. The H indicates hydralic and the A indicates a castering rather than a fixed tail wheel. The 444 was a later version on which trip bottoms were available.
BTW - I could kick myself for watching the auctioneer sell nice 44H's and even once a nice 44AH without opening my mouth.

Thank you both. It must be a 44H then as it does have a fixed tail wheel. Thanks again !!
