My 1935 B PTO has not been opreative since I have had it. I have herd that there is a pin on the leaver that needs to be replaced. The leaver does spin like it is not attached to anything-- Is this as simple as it sounds? Mr B

There is a cotter key that goes through the fork and shifter shaftdown low in the transmission. It sounds like that could be the problem. I have replaced it on unstyled A's through the trans. cover, but don't know if there is room to fix the B from the top, or if you need to go in from the back. Good luck Don BTW, you will have to drain the oil to see it.

Its been a while since I fixed mine, but after you remove the tranny top you can see if turning the PTO lever is engaging the lower bevel gears, but if it is and still no pto, then you have what I did which was a sheared off half moon key in the bevel gear shaft down below. Ol John T in Indiana

John T, The shift leaver just spins around like it is not connected to anything, Does that tell us anything? Another thing that I had forgot about on that tractor-- Aren't they suposed to drop back into low range in the transmision when you shift to reverse? This one does not, That is something I can look into while I have the top off next spring. Have you seen how that is done? Mr. B

The one shifting fork has a rod that pushes the high/low shifter to the low side. Some one has cut the rod out of it. Many of these tractors have had it removed to allow them 2 reverses.

DP--- I cant imgine why one would want a faster reverse, The original is way to fast on that tractor, I can seldom actualy ingage the clutch fully in backing unless I am just traveling a distance. Cripes -- I will certainly want to prevent that from being used in this one if it is at all repairable without a major tear down. The regular reverse I think is faster than the second gear forward. To fast for tight backing of wagons in tight places-- I had to use the nose hitch and low when I could, But did master the rear pretty well. Did a few competitions and took top honers a time or two. If any one has done one of those I would like to hear what and how is the easiest fix. Mr B

When you remove the cover you will see where the rod has been cut off. It would probably be the simplest to go to a salvage yard and get a replacement shifting fork. It isn't going to hurt anything, unless you want it back original! Have you checked out the PTO lever yet? Don
