Does anybody know where the power source for the lights are on a early model (1964) 3020. I have traced it to the switch but can"t decide if power can from the switch or another wire that is dead. There is two wires that plugs into the switch, one runs the lights and I don"t know if the other wire was the hot or it is another feed to something else. there is no power at the switch on this terminal right now. Thanks in advance for any help. PF

Power comes to the switch when the ignition switch is on. The exact wiring varies with vintage of the tractor and whether gas or diesel. For the diesel there will be two of everything on the switch. Two sources and two loads, one positive, one negative. There is a circuit breaker nearby on my 4020 too.

This tractor is a gas. The terminal in question does not power up so am I to assume that the switch has a dead spot in it? If that is the case than can I pull power from another source provided of course that it is fused? Thanks PF

It would be nice if the selected power source had power only with the ignition switch on. As I recall, there's a circuit breaker in the line to the light switch. Its suspect. Not going through the ignition switch makes it handy to run the battery down leaving the lights on.

You may need an ignition switch if it has power and runs the ignition power. There were at least three different ones used, depending on vintage. Very early serial numbers (oil bath air cleaner) were different than middle years (dry bath, but remote on the dash), and I think different from those on the side console. The wiring harness was also different. The earliest had the simplest harneess, then they went to a sectionalized harness with conneectors between the sections. Connectors didn't add to reliability but did add to the ease of original installation. The I&T manual has a simplified wiring diagram, the Deere parts book shows more details, and the shop manual shows more. There were different parts books and shop manual for the pre side console from those for the tractor with the side console and different wiring.

Thanks for your help. I'll try and get a wiring diagram manual. Sounds like they sure did make a lot of different setups. PF
