Here is my problem. I am working on a JD 4-219 engine, in my model 401b industrial. When checking main bearing clearance I am at .004 on almost all mains Max is .0046. On checking block, the bores for the main bearings are .003 above spec. The block was just line honed, so they actually made the holes too large by .003 I know if I talk to the rebuilder they are going to tell me they can't rehone it again, not enough material left. If I use it like it is it will work, but be at the high end of tolerances, which I don't like to do. I can take a slight amount off of the cap, which is not a good thing to do. Any suggestions Stan

If your measurements are ACCURATE, and the machine shop REALLY "overbored" the main bearing bores by .003", they owe you a new block. (And a slap upside the head.)

Period.

There's NO EXCUSE for that. The reduced "crush" of the main bearing "shells" could certainly give problems down the road!

Yes it will work just fine, when the bearings and crank get installed along with engin oil filling up the clearence things will be just right,
