I should know this off the top of my head, but I can't remember what the serial number break is for the last open fan shaft A. I know they carried it into the 35 models, but don't remember how far. I've misplaced my info on this, and somehow I know someone out there remembers better than I do. Thanks, Jerry

414808 was the last Model "A" with an open fan shaft. Oddly enough, 414800 was built with a closed fan shaft.

I wonder if the highly prized open fan model had larger production numbers than the one with the closed fan tube that still had the pop up oil indicator and the oil pump on the LH side ?

Well, do the math. Model "A serial numbers started at 410000. Open fan shafts were built until 414808. Closed fan shafts began at 414809, and the "red-head" oil pressure indicator and external oil pump was used until 424024, so obviously, more closed fan shaft tractors with external oil pumps were built than open fan shaft tractors.

Thanks for your help guys. I would like to know about the red head A numbers also. I restored a 35 A with the red head, and I do know that those are heavily sought after as well.

I had an AR with the "RED HEAD" and on full steel
and I think these were made in far fewer numbers yet. Put it on ebay a few years back and they don't bring what a row crop seems to.

Could you please explain what a "Red Head" is since I seem to have one on my 35 A at 417034.

I found out last weekend that the pop up oil pressure pin can freeze down when in fact the oil pressure is fine. Just had to pull it loose. I am still gettting reliable oil pressure from the side mount pump after the repair I noted a few months back on this board. It included a stronger spring, and a better polished non pitted plunger in the pump.

I think they use the red end on the pop up pressure plunger for a referance. Or at least they were red when new ?

O.K., I take it that all 34 and 35 models had the "pop up" or "Red Head" oil pressure guages. Yes the pin was painted red from the factory. I did buy a early 36 yesterday that had the non pop up, "normal" oil guage. Thanks, for the info guys. Jerry
