I need to replace the hydrolic fluid in my 401b industrial tractor. What is the opinion of you folks on the oil from the discount stores, over the major brand oils, and even the oil the JD dealer sells. Thanks Stan

Stick with the JD hi guard or known brand names that say they are compatible. Some off cheap brands are not compatible with JD and other tractor brands brake and clutch materials. When that happens the brakes and PTO will get noisy and you'll find the remains of the material all wrapped around the sump pump screen in bottom of trans.

I buy my hyd oil from deere. Just make sure if you buy it somewhere else it is ok to use on deere hydrolics. I think a lot of it is just peoples personal choices or they try a particular oil and does ok. I try to run the manufactures lubricants except for engine oil. I have had really good luck with rotella so i stay with it. I like to use the same hydraulic oil they use from factory I feel it is more specifically made for that tractor. just my opinion
