My deere dealer wants $155 per piston for a set of rings. Last Fall they were only $90. He says deere's really wanting to stick it to the antique collectors since they'll pay about anything. Not me. What other sources are out there?
Thanks.

Deere's not alone in this.

I priced a certain set of piston rings for a small engine direct from Hastings near the end of 2006... $35.00. Two months later; when I ordered then; nearly $80.00.

Hastings employee told me they had new owners; and prices had nearly doubled; "across the board".

Joel...I bought a set of +.045 rings (AF3769R) for a 70 diesel from JD last October for $165. Just bought another set last week for the same price. I did a fair amount of checking around last fall and determined that the JD price, and the certainty of having the right fit, made the local dealer the best place to buy rings. I didn't want to pay $140 for Hastings rings and find out they weren't the right ones.

I thought those Deere sets were for the whole set of 2 not just per piston ? And if so it's only half as bad as you thought. You can call Hastings and they will sell direct to you. Should be able to find them online.
