I bought a well used 1380 last year, a 12 footer. I ran it in Timothy alfalfa mix hay with a SMTA international that may have 55 hp more or less. Would have worked better on a bigger tractor, like your 4010. They guy I bought it from had used it on his 4030 which is about the same hp as the 4010 originally had. It worked ok for me. Mine had a hydraulic radiator on the back frame, guy I got it from said it was that way when he got it new. The rear swivel point had been redone, apparently by JD. When I got mine the guy said he broke sickle heads on it and thought the bearing was out in the wobble box. I tore it down and replaced the 2 big bearings and pitman arm and it worked fine. Because of the sickle head problem the guy I got it from told me to take it home and see if I could fix it, if I could send him a check. He wanted 1000 originally, I put about 350 into bearings and end parts so sent him a check for 700. From a dealer the 1500 may be ok unless you can find something newer for less.

The JD 1380 may work ok for Alfalfa but when they were NEW here in Texas they weren't very dependable. They would blow the hyd. oil dipstick out so JD field installed radiators on them to help combat problem !!! Also I think the neck swivel pin would break. Conditioner rolls ran better when belt drive was added to drive rolls.Tx Jim
