I've just purchased the carb rebuild kit for my 3010 (Zenith) and am needing an online resource to help me get the job done. Anyone know of a detailed resource or could walk me through the steps? Sure would appreciate the help.

The Zenith is pretty simple to do just clean it well and how it needs cleaned depends on condition. Your kit should have came with parts list and and some instructions or specifications like float setting. You'll want to soak it in a dip bucket of carburetor cleaner or MEK, methyl ethyl ketone to remove gunk and varnish, bead blast corrosion lightly if necessary (NOT sandblast!). Will need numbered drills or torch tip cleaners to rod holes and passageways out by hand careful not enlarge the holes or jets any. If your kit didn't come with a throttle shaft, bushings, or butterfly and those are worn you'll have to buy those or any other parts separate not in the kit for a good rebuild like float and choke parts too. Check float for leaks by shaking to see if fuel is inside or hold it with a pair of pliers in pan of hot water (not boiling) and will see air bubbles spewing out if float has leaks. Most floats are available new but if you are good at soldering you may be able to repair it. If float pontoons look collapsed replace the float. I'm sure the SM---- JD service manual for the 3010 has some detailed carburetor service information in it also. Other sources for service literature, manuals or parts: thecarburetorshop.com, zenithfuelsystems.com, online auctions or other ads.

I'm getting this carb back together - one question regarding the gaskets - do they need any sort of glue-like sealant? Dumb question, but when you need to know..... ...

Thanks to all for the advice on getting this task completed.

No gasket sealer needed just clean, true, nick free carb surfaces. You will want to use some sealer resistant to gas on bowl plug and fuel inlet fittings. It's a lot better to have gaskets than none using silicone gasket maker. Silicone never fails to squeeze too much inside plugging something up eventually or causing float to hang up.
