I probably won't know till I try but thought I'd ask. I'm hauling a late John Deere A on a 18' trailer (non dovetail). Now I want to take a golf cart to the shows and it won't fit in back of the pickup. I was afraid of excess tongue weight with tractor all the way to the front and golf cart in back of the trailer but that is the only way i can haul both. Have any of you guys done this or think I'll be ok doing this? Thanks

Can you put the golfcart on first, park it on the far right front corner. Then drive the tractor on, swing the front wheels left and past the golf cart a few feet. Stop with the crankshaft lined up with the rear axle of the trailer, or maybe a foot fwd.

I think the center of gravity of the tractor is pretty close to the C/L of the cam. This essentially means that it would be like putting all 5000# directly below the cam. Drive it on forward/backward, etc, doesn't matter, it's all relative.

I would drive the A on forward and have the rears over the axles. That way the trailer is holding most of the weight but you still have positive tongue weight. If the tongue weight is insufficient or negative, the trailer will go everywhere but behind you. Been there and almost lost truck trailer tractor and a few cars in the process. Very frightening. Luckily no one got hit or hurt. With the trailer loaded the way I described, I was able to run 65-70 all the way from Nebraska to Illinois and not even have the trailer wag a bit.

Jim, if you are just showing the A and it's not loaded with weights it's about 5k and the golf cart with batteries is about 1K...I hauled a JD-60 with a heavy shredder sticking out to the end ov a 16 ft trailer with no problem on a ragged 1-ton dually...if your truck is stout you should have no problem...especially if you have good brakes on the trailer...you could always stack some suitcase weights on the cart and put on a real show...Good luck!

How would your balance be if you reversed it and put the golf cart in the front and the tractor on the back. Try driving the cart on forward, which will place its weight mostly toward the middle of the trailer, and backing the tractor on backward to do the same thing.

Put the pickup and cart on the trailer, and pull it with the "A"..... .

Put the cart in the pickup, then put the A on the trailer and pull with the truck.
